The Lost Lucky Spot

Opening image for the story
Lily the ladybug was a happy ladybug. She had a shiny red shell with the most beautiful black spots. But her favorite spot was her lucky spot, a tiny, shimmering gold dot on her back. It brought her good luck, like finding the sweetest nectar and the juiciest leaves. One sunny morning, Lily woke up and felt a tickle on her back. She wiggled and stretched, but the tickle wouldn't go away. She looked in a dewdrop and gasped! Her lucky spot was gone! "Oh no!" cried Lily. "Where did it go?" She flew around the garden, searching high and low. She asked the busy bees, the chirping crickets, and the sleepy snails, but no one had seen it. Finally, she landed on a giant sunflower, its head drooping low. "Excuse me," said Lily, "have you seen my lucky spot? It's a tiny, shimmering gold dot." The sunflower, in a deep, rumbling voice, said, "My dear, I haven't seen your spot, but I know who might. Go to the wise old owl in the oak tree. He knows everything about the garden." Lily flew to the oak tree and found the owl perched on a branch, his eyes closed. "Wise owl," she said, "I've lost my lucky spot. Can you help me find it?" The owl opened one eye, then the other. "Hmm," he hooted. "I believe your lucky spot is not lost, but hidden. Look closely at the things you love the most." Lily flew back to the sunflower and looked at its golden petals. Then she looked at the juicy red berries she loved to eat. And then, she saw it! Her lucky spot was sparkling on a beautiful red rose, reflecting the sunlight. Lily was so happy! She had found her lucky spot, and she learned that sometimes, the things we love the most are where we find our luck.
